WHAT TO EXPECT: INITIAL PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT
The initial assessment generally takes place in my home office but can be virtual if you prefer. To use our time efficiently, it is essential that you complete your intake paperwork ahead of time so I may review it the day before our scheduled session. The assessment will begin with a discussion so you can tell me exactly what is going on in your own words. We will go over your completed paperwork and results from your intake questionnaires. We will move on to a physical assessment where I will feel and move the affected tissues and joints, test strength and sensation and so on. We will discuss my findings and I will propose a treatment plan. If deemed appropriate and time allows, we may try some treatment methods at the end of the assessment. See Treatment Descriptions for examples of techniques that may be recommended or performed. At the end of this visit there should be a clear plan for follow up and you will receive a summary email with recommendations and reminders. The initial assessment is typically 90 minutes in duration at a cost of $150, payable by e-transfer or cash. A detailed receipt will be provided and it is your responsibility to seek reimbursement if you have a third party insurance plan. Back to top.
* Special note that for adult pelvic health appointments we will discuss external and internal pelvic examinations and treatment techniques and you will always have the opportunity to ask questions and provide informed consent before proceeding. You are welcome at any time during your menstrual cycle and do not need to cancel if you are on your bleeding time.
* Children’s pelvic health appointments (pain, bedwetting etc.) will only ever involve a physical assessment of private areas after a relationship of trust has been established and only if it is deemed necessary. Often our starting point is a parent interview in person or by telephone.
* If we are evaluating breast health a physical breast exam will be necessary and if you are breastfeeding, your infant will be an important part of the appointment. If you use a breast pump please also have it available.
WHAT TO EXPECT: PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT
Follow up sessions follow a similar flow to the assessment as it is vital that we respond to what your body is telling us in the moment. We will have already discussed a guideline for your treatment plan but choice of treatment depends largely on your body’s response to interventions so we will always discuss how you are feeling prior to beginning. I encourage you to ask questions and fully participate in your care. The treatment session is typically 90 minutes in duration at a cost of $150 payable by e-transfer or cash. A detailed receipt will be provided and it is your responsibility to seek reimbursement if you have a third party insurance plan. For more information on treatment techniques that may be recommended, see Treatment Descriptions. Back to top.
