Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
I treat clients at my home, which is located in Caledonia, Ontario. The full address will be sent in your confirmation email once a session has been booked. Back to top.
What are your hours of operation?
As a mother to four young children I have committed to being with my family on evenings and weekends. I see clients when they are at school and daycare. As such, I only offer session times during week days. I see clients for longer sessions and tend to see them less than my clinic-based counterparts. I understand this availability does not work for everyone. If you feel this service is appropriate for you, please contact me and I will get back to you with my availability. Back to top.
Do I need a referral from my doctor before seeking treatment?
A doctor’s referral is NOT required to begin physiotherapy. However, if you have third party insurance and will be seeking reimbursement, you need to check with your insurance company to see if they require a doctor’s referral. Back to top.
Is physiotherapy covered by OHIP?
Some physiotherapy is covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, however, Destination Wellness is NOT an OHIP service. Visit https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-physiotherapy to see if you qualify for government funded physiotherapy and find services near you. Back to top.
Is my physiotherapy covered by my third party insurance plan through work?
Many third party insurance companies do cover physiotherapy services. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company and find out if you are covered and what you need to seek reimbursement (referrals, estimates etc.). It is important to get ALL relevant plan information so you need to ask the right questions (ie. Is a referral required? What is my total coverage allowance? Is there a deductible? Is there a maximum per visit? Is my assessment covered? Does my plan run on a calendar year? etc.). If you are having a difficult time determining or understanding your insurance information and need help with this process I would be able to assist you in a consultation setting but keep in mind if you set aside some time most questions can be answered by your insurance company over the phone. Back to top.
Can you bill my insurance directly?
Even if you have third party insurance coverage for physiotherapy it is NOT my policy to directly bill your insurance company. All services must be paid for up front and you are responsible for seeking reimbursement. Back to top.
My insurance company needs your registration number, what is it?
My professional licence registration number with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is 14062. This number should be clearly visible on all receipts you receive from me. If I provide you with a physiotherapy receipt that does not contain this information kindly contact me to let me know. Note that gua sha and yoga sessions may be incorporated into your physiotherapy treatment but on their own will not be reimbursable by your insurance company. My Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Graduate number is 071-S10, however acupuncture is a component of my physiotherapy treatment plans and will not be billed separately. Please contact me if your insurance company requires any further information. Back to top.
My infant/child has been referred for physiotherapy, can you treat them?
As stated above, some OHIP funded physiotherapy is available in our area and your child may qualify. There are certainly situations where private services would be beneficial (ie. your 4 week old baby has torticollis or baby flat head and you would prefer not to leave your home for an appointment) but each scenario is unique so please feel free to contact me. If appropriate, I am happy to treat clients of all ages. Back to top.
How do I pay for services?
Services will be invoiced immediately upon completion and payment can be made by cash or e-transfer. A detailed receipt will be provided which you can use to submit for reimbursement if your insurance company allows. Each receipt identifies the service provided along with my associated credentials and licence numbers. Back to top.
Is there HST on top of your advertised fees?
No, there is no HST on physiotherapy services. As a very small business there is no HST on products purchased directly from me at this time. If this changes in the future, advertised fees will be adjusted to reflect inclusion of HST. Back to top.
I have a workplace injury filed through WSIB, can you treat me?
No, these services are not covered through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. If you choose Destination Wellness you will need to pay out of pocket for services rendered. Back to top.
I was injured in a motor vehicle accident and am seeking treatment through my MVA insurance, can you treat me?
No, these services are not covered through MVA insurance. If you choose Destination Wellness you will need to pay out of pocket for services rendered. Back to top.
How is this service different from others available?
Destination Wellness provides a one-on-one wellness experience unlike anything I have seen elsewhere. I offer services in a comfortable home setting and am the only individual involved in your care. I approach the body with reverence and respect, which can be quite different from other experiences within our healthcare system. Empowerment of my clients is my main objective and longer sessions are essential to conveying information and teaching strategies for home practice between sessions. I always include a comprehensive summary email after your assessment with individual recommendations. Clients often report huge shifts after our very first meeting and it is not uncommon for me to see clients only 2-3 times total over the course of a few months. Obviously each plan is individual but if finances are a barrier please keep in mind that your wellness is worth investing in and even if you can only come one time, I would appreciate the opportunity to share what I have learned with you. How do I know if I need physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy can be a valuable option to treat existing dysfunctions but should also be part of any healthy lifestyle. I am very passionate about health promotion and teaching lifestyle strategies to regulate the nervous system and prevent injuries and illness. You don’t have to have a problem to seek physiotherapy.
Everyone could have a better connection with their pelvic health and self care approaches can prevent injury and dysfunction. Often people reach out for pelvic care after having children but there are lots of benefits to pelvic care for general health and wellness prior to this stage of life. Ideally men and women would receive respectful pelvic care as part of their regular health care and women would be familiar with self care techniques prior to conception. In short, if you have a pelvic floor (and you do!), you would benefit from learning more about pelvic health!
Please always seek support with pelvic health questions and concerns. No question is silly and there is no such thing as too much information. Pelvic health issues are different from other areas of the body in that they tend to stay the same or even worsen over time rather than get better. So the sooner the better BUT it is also never too late! Just because issues are common does not mean they are ‘normal’. Back to top.
What types of treatment are available?
See Treatment Descriptions for information about available techniques. Feel free to contact me to ask further questions or make requests if there is something that interests you. The combination of treatments that I recommend is unique with every case and every individual. I only recommend and perform techniques that I believe in and will not suggest unnecessary treatment. Back to top.
Should I stop seeing my other healthcare providers before booking with you?
I am very comfortable co-treating and am happy to communicate with other practitioners involved in your care. There is no reason to discontinue treatment unless there are concerns that it would be counterproductive to progress or services are redundant. If you are unsure of this please discuss with your existing practitioner or book a consultation to discuss further. I even have clients who see other pelvic health physiotherapists because my approach is quite unique. Back to top.
I have been to physiotherapy for this injury before, do I need another assessment?
Yes, even if you recently had an assessment performed it is imperative that I complete an assessment to develop an understanding of your situation and to develop a treatment plan. If for example you are transferring from another physiotherapists' care or your insurance company does not cover an assessment I am happy to troubleshoot with you. Back to top.
Should I wait until I get diagnostic imaging results? What do the results mean?
There is no need to wait until you get diagnostic imaging results. If you already have results I am interested in seeing them but your treatment plan will be based mainly on what your body is telling me and not just on what imaging reports convey. Symptoms can vary widely between individuals based on how their body is perceiving an issue which is why treatment plans must be specially designed for you. Back to top.
How do I know if this will work for me?
As with any treatment technique or style, there is no guarantee of positive results. I typically advise clients to trust their instincts and maintain a positive attitude. If you are interested in a treatment and believe it could work for you it is worth a try. If you are not confident in a treatment or can’t at least keep an open mind there is no sense investing in it. One thing I can guarantee is that I will be completely honest if I don’t feel my services are right for you. I pride myself on integrity and professionalism and make an effort to know my own limitations as well as the strengths of others so I can refer when appropriate. Back to top.
Can my breastfeeding support or yoga be billed as physiotherapy?
The only way any treatment, including breastfeeding support, yoga, gua sha and acupuncture, can be "billed as physiotherapy" is if they are part of your recommended treatment plan to achieve your physiotherapy goals. In order for this to happen, an initial physiotherapy assessment must take place and goals need to be set. It is fraudulent to bill these services as physiotherapy without a proper assessment. If you are interested in yoga services without having a physiotherapy assessment you will not receive a 'physiotherapy' receipt and therefore will not qualify for reimbursement from your third party insurance. In summary, I am happy to provide yoga instruction to anyone interested but it will only fall under the umbrella of physiotherapy if it is a legitimate component of a treatment plan. Back to top.
Are you a Lactation Consultant?
I am NOT a Lactation Consultant (LC). I am a Registered Physiotherapist with training in breast health and within my scope of practice can evaluate and treat conditions related to breast function or function of coordinated feeding in an infant. This may include evaluation of structures, positioning, manual treatment of the infant or breast and education. It is not within my scope of practice to discuss volume of milk or formula being provided and I will always refer to an LC in those instances.
